The Helix to The Falkirk Wheel

Length: 4 miles

Route type: 1-way+public transport

Difficulty: Low

Visit two of Falkirk’s and Scotland’s most iconic sites in one amazing 5km trip. Hire an E-bike at the Helix Park Forth Bike station. Cycle towards the giant Kelpie sculptures turning left to join the Forth and Clyde Canal Towpath before you reach them. Make sure to cross the bridge so that you are on the path that is north of the canal.

Follow the canal and the #Wheel2Kelpies Selfie Trail through old industrial heartlands and past the site of the lowland whisky Rosebank Distillery (due to reopen in 2023). Keep going until you see the Wheel ahead of you to the left. Cross the bridge at the Wheel and drop off your Forth Bike at the docking station by the entrance to the Visitor Centre.

Celebrating its 20th birthday in 2022, the Falkirk Wheel offers a wide variety of attractions to enjoy. 2022 is also the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Union Canal. Look out for special anniversary events during the year, visit the many attractions at the Wheel or simply watch as boats take a trip on the world’s only rotating boat lift.
