Cycling Without Age Scotland Route 1 - Helix Park to Falkirk Wheel

Length: 16km (Estimated ride time 2 to 3 hours)

Route type: Loop

Difficulty: Low

Visit two of Falkirk and Scotland’s most iconic sites in one amazing 17-kilometre circular route.

Featuring flat, smooth paths for most of the route and with a low difficulty rating, this route is easily accessible for trishaws, trikes and standard bikes. One short section of the route requires cycling on a stretch of road before re-joining the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath. The entire route takes approximately 3 hours.

Starting your journey at the Helix Park, head towards the majestic Kelpies before crossing the Forth & Clyde Canal to access the canal towpath. Follow the canal and the Wheel2Kelpies Selfie Trail through old industrial heartlands and past the site of the lowland whisky Rosebank Distillery (due to reopen in 2023) on your way to the engineering marvel that is the Falkirk Wheel.

Celebrating its 20th birthday in 2022, the Falkirk Wheel offers a wide variety of attractions to enjoy. 2022 is also the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Union Canal. Look out for special anniversary events during the year, stop for a rest, refreshments and retail therapy at the visitor centre, watch as boats take a trip on the world’s only rotating boat lift or enjoy a spot of crazy golf.

Then retrace your route along the Forth & Clyde Canal back to the Helix Park.
