12 indoor family fun activities in the Falkirk area

Winter months can be a bit dreary at times but don't let this stop you from having fun. You will find a huge range of indoor activities from Karting to tenpin bowling, trampolining to soft play and loads more. So visit the Falkirk area for family fun.

1. Discover 2,000 years of history at Callendar House & Park

Callendar House is a stunning 14th century, French chateau styled house, rated 4-star visitor attraction. Enjoy a wide range of temporary and permanent displays, including The Story of Callendar House, The Antonine Wall and Falkirk: Crucible of Revolution 1750-1850.

Don’t miss the Georgian kitchen with costumed interpreters creating an exciting interactive experience, visit the stunning Tearoom and explore the magnificent park and woodlands, have fun in the Roman themed play park (weather permitting). 2. Enjoy a Wizarding World experience at the School of Witchcraft & Potions

Located in The Lonely Broomstick shop, the School of Witchcraft & Potions is an immersive Wizarding World experience in the heart of Scotland. Enter into a world like you've never seen before and be immersed into the creation of potions, wand movements, spells and so much more!

3. Explore the world’s largest equine sculptures – The Kelpies

A visit to the Falkirk area must include the world famous Kelpies in the Helix Park! A colossal 30 metres tall sculpture above the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Pre book a Kelpie’s Tour which will take you inside one of the horses heads and marvel at the architecture. If it is a sunny day enjoy a walk around the many walks and let the kids have a play in the play park. Then treat yourself to a warming hot drink and cake or a tasty lunch at the visitor centre’s café.

4. Sail into the air on an unforgettable boat trip at The Falkirk Wheel

Just a short 10 minute drive or bus trip from the historic Falkirk Town Centre will take you to The Falkirk Wheel, the worlds only rotating boat lift. Sail 115 ft into the air in one of their barges, (Boat trips will be back from the 16th February) then have a delicious coffee, snack or meal in the visitor centre cafe - which has fantastic views.

5. Swim, play and exercise at The Mariner Centre

A wet day itinerary could include a trip to the Mariner Centre. With a large lagoon shaped pool, family friendly pool, sports facilities and play area for kids in the café, the Mariner has something for all the family.

6. Experience the thrill and adrenaline of indoor karting

Xtreme Karting is a fantastic karting centre. Whether you aim to be the next F1 champion, or you are a complete novice just wanting to experience the thrill of racing, Xtreme Karting has race tuned karts, an exhilarating track and a range of exciting race sessions guaranteed to get the adrenalin pumping and put a smile on your face.

7. Take on a challenge with family and friends at Divergent Escape Rooms

If you love mystery, suspense and excitement, then Divergent Escape Rooms is the perfect place to enjoy the time with your family and friends. This highly rated escape rooms will transport you to a different time and place. Find the clues, solve the puzzles and beat the clock.

8. Take a trip on a steam train at Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway

Spend a wonderful day out with the whole family travelling on a steam train and enjoy stunning countryside views. Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway is running steam trains on certain dates in February and tickets are available here.

9. Reach the skies at Air Thrill

Air Thrill (formerly Sky High Trampolining) is one of the first state of the art trampoline parks in Central Scotland with over 70 interconnected trampolines. Improvise with your own freestyle moves in the Open Bounce area or join in with their team sports such as basketball and dodgeball all on super-strung trampolines. At Air Thrill, there is no limit to how much fun you can have.

10. Enjoy an out of the world experience at Wonder World Soft Play

Located in the same building as Air Thrill, Wonder world Soft play is the biggest and most exciting children's indoor adventure centre in the Falkirk area.

Themed on the wonders of the world, this custom built centre provides an out of this world experience for children of all ages, designed to stimulate the imagination and encourage physical development in a safe and fun environment.

11. Experience Scotland’s oldest cinema – The Hippodrome

Beautifully restored, The Hippodrome is Scotland's oldest purpose-built cinema. Admire the stunning pre-art deco picture palace dating back to 1912 and enjoy the best major releases, independent films and classics with your friends and family.

12. Bowling fun for all the family at Tenpin 

Tenpin Falkirk has  20 impressive bowling lanes to ensure all the family will get a go. You will also find on site Pool Tables, Arcade Machines, Cosmic Bowling, Restaurant, Table Tennis and Air Hockey. So pay a visit and find out who will be the family bowling champion.
