Falkirk is at the heart of the latest off-road cycle route

If you love cycling, you will be excited to know that Cycle UK has recently developed an 800-mile off-road trail, which goes from the Peak District in England to the far North of Scotland, named as the Great North Trail.

This long-distance route will take you through fascinating attractions and landscapes along the way, taking you through stunning attractions in the Falkirk  area such as, The Falkirk Wheel, Antonine Wall and  Blackness Castle. And the best part, it only passes through just 16 miles of busy roads in the whole route, so you will be able to enjoy the best of our scenery and explore incredible hidden gems off the beaten track.

Although this route passes mainly through unsurfaced trails, you don’t need to be an experienced mountain biker. Some parts of the route are perfect for family days out. Canal paths will take you past landmarks like the Falkirk Wheel.

The trail cover 8 sections, and  you will find information of interest, such as places to visit, shops and cycle-friendly accommodation along the way . The Falkirk area is included in section 5, which covers the Central Belt, and has trails that are suitable for every level.
